Originally from the suburbs of Chicago, Ryan began working on Broadway musicals in 1999. Starting out as a production assistant on Elton John & Tim Rice’s Aida, he went on to assist Mel Brooks and Tom Meehan on The Producers, assistant directed Hugh Jackman in The Boy From Oz, and assisted Tony Award winning producer David Binder.

In the summer of 2008, while working part-time selling subscriptions for the Public Theater, he cold-called Steven Lutvak composer of A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder. When Ryan mentioned he was a budding producer, Steven pitched his show. They met for coffee a month later and Ryan went on to spend the next three and half years putting together a producing team to take it to Broadway. In June of 2014 the show won 4 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Book, Best Direction and Best Costumes.

And yes, Steven Lutvak bought the subscription.
